Need to replace the studs? McFarlane has high strength heat-treated stainless exhaust studs and nuts FAA-PMA approved for Lycoming and Continental engines. They feature our Black-Max™ coating to prevent metal corrosion in the aluminum cylinder head. Our studs will not rust and can be re-used several times. Why should you use these tools?
The cadmium plating on a stud fails at 600 F. Over time, exhaust temperatures will rust erode standard exhaust studs. It is best to replace exhaust studs before they rust to the point of twisting off during removal. Our TOOL134 is small enough to clear the cylinder head and firmly grips the stud. There are two groups of stud removal tools available: tools that securely grip the stud (but they're too big to fit in the exhaust port area) or tools that are small enough but they slip when the studs are tightened. Our tool will fit into the exhaust port area and grip the stud tight enough to twist it off. TOOL134 can also be used to remove studs with the same thread anywhere on the engine. Use our fast install TOOL135 to install new studs.
